21st Annual Sugar Land Surgical Hospital Turkey Trot

21st Annual Sugar Land Surgical Hospital Turkey Trot was a great morning! A record 832 entered the holiday event. Perfect weather greeted the runners, 52 degrees, clear skies.

Sean Scroggins Kids Mile, ages 12 and under, was first at 8am. Ryan Teel, age 12, was a repeat winner in 5:45 for the boys. The girls were led by Sheray Reese, also age 12, in a time of 6:40. Both won turkey trophies and Finish Line Sports gift certificates.

Next was the chip-timed five-mile run at 8:30am through Sugar Creek. Top three males were John Hedengren, 25:20; Brett Ramsey, 28:42; and Tuan Nguyen, 28:47. For the ladies, top three were Lauren Smith, a Brazoswood soph, 28:54; Joy Smith, Sugar Land, 32:47; and Jana Yowell, Sugar Land, 35:24. The course was a beautiful loop.

Finally at 8:50am was the 2.8-Mile Family Walk. This was a shorter loop on the same course, with strollers allowed. Our eldest participant was a kind 86-year-old gentleman. In 2007, this walk moves to 9am due to growing popularity.

Afterwards in front of FLS, Aunt Jean supplies plentiful refreshments, while great door prizes and turkey trophy awards were handed out. Music from Vince Ramos and Peter Manry filled the air, as well as bagpiper E.J.

Sponsors included: Sugar Land Surgical Hospital, Ft. Bend Toyota, ASICS, Aramco Services, Finish Line Sports, and Texans Insurnace. Charities benefitting were: Cenikor, MD Anderson, East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry, and Cenicle Retreat House.

A Happy Thanksgiving was had by all. We hope to see you back in 2007.
