FLS Christmas Party
FLS' 21st Annual Christmas Party was last night and about 70 attended, our most ever. Pete Manry supplied Christmas music. A FANTASTIC pot-luck dinner was enjoyed by all. DJ/Marathoner Kevin Kline gave a great talk on www.snowdropfoundation.org. He is fighting cancer among kids. Check out his new non-profit website.
Seven prize drawings were passed out, including a one-hour massage from Wes Speights. Weather was mild, but we still had a campfire out front. Many from Fort Bend Fit attended also.
Six 2006 FLS Awards were passed out in the form of a beautiful plaque.
Outstanding Runner Award...our fastest at Tuesday night track, Brett Cole turns 40 on the day of Chevron Houston Marathon, where he is shooting for 2:49PR. He ran a negative-split 1:59 at the 30K and 29 minutes at the Trot.
Co-Most Improved Runners...1) Adina Norris went from walker to runner this year. At age 57, she PR'ed by three minutes in the mile with a 9:57 at Beginner Speedwork. 2) Jeremy Rowe, age 33, of Sugar Land. At the windy cold Chicago Marathon, he ran 3:40, a PR by 52 minutes! His mile time is down to 5:52.
Outstanding Triathlete Award....Chris Dull, age 34, is a former linebacker for Baylor U. In the past years, he has lost over 100 pounds! Chris had a FANTASTIC 4:38 Half-Ironman in Florida at the national championships with his girlfriend Christie. His first IM is this April in Arizona. Ten hours flat perhaps? This guy can race.
Outstanding Service Award...Mike Hefner. USAT official, sets up FLS races at 2am. This guy is there whenever needed, ready to go early. A key cog to FLS, he is as important as Aunt Jean.
Remembering Irma Award...a tribute to the late Irma Bondy-Gill of FBF coaches. Anne Fickel, FLS asst manager, was a popular choice because of her continual willingness to help others and the way she gives 100% of her ability, like Irma. This was our most emotional and final award.
Merry Christmas! Next year's date will be Sunday, Dec 16th, same weekend. Thanks to all those who attended and made the night very special. I know there are many conflicts this time of year, and we appreciate you clearing your calendar.
